Make jam with hand-picked blueberries

The three of us picked blueberries in the forest, weighing about 500g in total.

Wash the blueberries and make jam in the kitchen right away.

All you need is sugar, a large pot and wooden spatula, a scum remover to scoop out the scum, and a clean jar to put the jam in.

Normally, it is made by boiling it in a pot for a long time to evaporate the moisture, but my mother-in-law always uses sugar for jam, so it was easily prepared in about 10 minutes.

Jam sugar is sugar that is already mixed with pectin, citric acid, preservatives, etc. in addition to sugar, and is often found in Swedish supermarkets.

Make comfortable and comfortable choices

In Japan, when we hear the word "Nordic", we have the image of "slow life = spending a lot of time and effort to create things", but in reality, people in Sweden seem to be good at prioritizing rational thinking everywhere. .

It is difficult to spend long hours in the kitchen making jam and to properly sterilize it by boiling.

I'm a little concerned that the sugar contains a preservative (potassium sorbate), but it's safe because it meets the EU's strict food standards. If you store jam in a half-hearted way and bacteria grows in the jam, that would be a big problem.

"Choices" must be made not only in jam making but in every aspect of life.

"Determine for yourself the line that you are satisfied with, and choose the one that suits you best from among the options that will help you reach that line."

I feel like Swedish people have a comfortable and effortless way of making choices.

And those around them will respect and warmly watch over the method they choose.

Personally, I think this method of selection is natural and very nice.

It may sound a bit exaggerated to use the analogy of making jam, but for example, you might say, ``I don't really understand, but for the sake of the child, it would be better not to use preservatives, so let's cut down on the time and hassle of making fika.'' I thought that there might be few people who think so.

I would like to speak with you when I have another opportunity.

Easy blueberry jam recipe

If you have the jam sugar mentioned above, you can easily make authentic blueberry jam.

  1. Wash blueberries and drain
  2. Put the blueberries in a large pot and add jam sugar equal to half the weight of the blueberries (I wanted it to be less sweet this time, so I used 50%).
  3. Mix the sugar and blueberries well with a wooden spatula over medium-high heat.
  4. Once it comes to a boil, lower the heat and let it simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes, removing any scum from time to time.
  5. While hot, pour into a clean jar that has been sterilized with boiling water (it will solidify like jam when it cools).
  6. Seal and serve

Of course, it can also be applied to frozen blueberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, etc. Please try it at home.

Fika with pancakes + lots of jam

Swedish pancakes are thin, crepe-like.

When making sweet pancakes, I often top them with jam or whipped cream.

For today's fika, I put half of the homemade strawberry jam and half of the blueberry jam I made this time. I think I would normally eat just one type, but I wanted to try both, so I ended up having two.

The Swedish style is to top it with jam and then roll it up with a fork. It's easy to eat and looks cute.

My husband said that when he was a child, he often ate pancakes with lingonberry jam for lunch.

By the way, I like simple crepes with cinnamon sugar and butter the most, but I also love crepes with berry jam, which are packed with the natural blessings of Sweden.
